Daniel Dye's first NASCAR playoff run ends at Kansas after early setback

On lap three of Friday's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series playoff race at Kansas, Daniel Dye's season was determined.

The No. 43 truck scrubbed the wall from the ninth position, and after hitting the wall again on lap 14, he was forced to make a pit stop that put him a lap down.

Dye ran as low as 33rd in a 34-truck field and ultimately finished 28th, three laps down. He entered Friday's elimination race nine points below the cut line, and while he posted a good lap in qualifying, he was unable to dig out the early hole at Kansas to advance in the playoffs.

Dye's first Truck Series postseason appearance is over, but he still put together a solid season. After a poor rookie season in 2023, a playoff appearance in 2024 was clear evidence of Dye's improvement.

Dye was calm under pressure down the stretch in the regular season, and did enough to earn a bid in the 10-driver playoff field.

His inexperience proved to be his downfall in the playoffs, and the No. 43 team was well behind the eight-ball when the circuit rolled into Kansas.

Friday's result was undoubtedly disappointing for the young driver, but there's plenty for him to build on as he moves towards the final four races of the season.

As Dye prepares for a full-time Xfinity Series campaign with Kaulig Racing in 2025, his playoff experience will be vital in his climb up the NASCAR ladder.
