Yankees secure top seed in AL, Dodgers clinch best record in baseball

As of Sunday at 7:30 p.m. ET, the teams boasting the top records in the National League are:

• Los Angeles Dodgers: 98-64
• Philadelphia Phillies: 95-67
• Milwaukee Brewers: 93-69

The teams that have achieved the best records in the AL are:

• New York Yankees: 93-68
• Cleveland Guardians: 92-69
• Baltimore Orioles: 91-71

By finishing with the best record in baseball, the Dodgers will have home-field advantage for the entire duration of their postseason. They and the Phillies have earned first-round byes.

As the No. 1 seed in the NL, the Dodgers are slated to commence their postseason play in the NLDS against the winner of the wild-card matchup between the No. 4 seed (the San Diego Padres) and the No. 5 seed (the New York Mets, Atlanta Braves or Arizona Diamondbacks). 

In the AL, the Yankees and Guardians have secured the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds, respectively. Thus, they both have first-round byes. In the ALDS, the Yankees will play the winner of the wild-card series between the No. 4 seed (the Orioles) and the No. 5 seed (the Detroit Tigers or Kansas City Royals). 

After concluding their regular season Sunday, the Dodgers will be off until Oct. 5, when their divisional series commences. The Bronx Bombers wrap up their regular season against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
