No Rashee Rice, no problem for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
After losing his top receiver to a knee injury earlier in Sunday’s matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, Mahomes found a new deep target in rookie first-round pick Xavier Worthy.
On a first-and-10 from his own 46, Mahomes took a shotgun snap and unleashed a bomb down the middle of the field as Worthy outran the entire Chargers defense and hauled in the catch in the end zone.

Per NextGen Stats, Mahomes’ pass traveled 62.2 yards in the air, the longest completion of his career in terms of air distance. Worthy also reached a top speed of 21.46 mph, the third-fastest speed reached by a ball carrier in 2024.
It was Worthy’s second touchdown of the season and first since Kansas City’s 27-20 Week 1 win over the Baltimore Ravens. It was also the longest pass play for the Chiefs this season, topping Rice’s 44-yarder two weeks ago against the Cincinnati Bengals.
The touchdown was also a redeeming moment for Mahomes, who was intercepted on the Chiefs’ second drive of the game by Kristian Fulton.
The two-time NFL MVP has thrown an interception in every game this season.
