Nebraska is in the Dylan Raiola era right now, but one of the challenges of being a college football coach in 2025 and beyond is that you have to always be thinking about the future.
Heck, in the transfer portal and NIL era, even Raiola is not guaranteed to stick around at Nebraska for his entire college career. In fact, head coach Matt Rhule and the Huskers were lucky they were able to keep him in town for his sophomore season.
That makes recruiting wins for classes, even years down the road, important and Rhule and Nebraska just picked up a big one at the quarterback position.
Trae Taylor, four-star quarterback from Mundelein, Illinois, committed to the Huskers on Thursday.
He chose Nebraska over offers from LSU, Michigan and Texas A&M, though it total he boasts nearly 40 offers already as a 2027 recruit.

Taylor has actually been silently committed to the Huskers for two weeks now, according to Steve Wiltfong of On3, but he apparently felt Thursday was the best day to let the cat out of the bag.
He relayed to Wiltfong that he feels Rhule and co-offensive coordinator Glenn Thomas can really develop him both on and off the field. One gets the sense that as long as those two are at the helm of Nebraska's offense, Taylor's commitment will stand.
And even if things change at the top, the four-star spoke very highly about the Nebraska experience in general.
“What makes Nebraska so cool is their fanbase,” Taylor said. “It’s the best fanbase I’ve been around and I’ve been around some of the best. We’re talking LSU, South Carolina, Michigan and Nebraska has topped all of them by far.”
Ultimately, Taylor wants to focus on football. He also feels like Lincoln will give him that opportunity. It's a college town, but it's also a football town.
“Just the city, the town alone, the vibe fits me better,” Taylor said. “My life will truly be surrounded by football and I don’t have to worry about anything else around me.”
Ultimately, this is a big-time commitment for Nebraska if the Huskers can keep it
According to the 247Sports Composite, Taylor is the No. 3 quarterback in the 2027 class.
