Cowboys' not-so-secret weapon continues historic start to career

After spending time in MLS and the USFL, few knew what to expect when Brandon Aubrey signed with the Dallas Cowboys in July 2023.

Now, the former software engineer is one of the team's most dangerous weapons, and on Thursday, he continued his historic start to his NFL career.

Aubrey burst on the scene last season by leading the NFL in field goals made (36) while earning his first two NFC Special Teams Player of the Week and Month awards. Aubrey was third in the league with his 94.73% field goal percentage and was particularly lethal on his longer attempts, going 10-for-10 on tries from at least 50 yards away.

The 29-year-old was a Pro Bowler and first-team All-Pro as a rookie and has arguably been even better in 2024.

Aubrey is on pace to shatter last season's mark of 36 field goals as he enters Week 5 by leading the NFL with 12 makes. While he missed three of his 52 extra-point attempts during the 2023 campaign, the St. Louis native has made all seven in 2024 and recently upped his career-long field goal mark to 65 yards (one short of the NFL record).

Dallas has a significant advantage on offense by having a kicker like Aubrey, as the field shortens to a point where, as long as they can make it to midfield, they're in scoring range.

Quarterback Dak Prescott, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and linebacker Micah Parsons might get most of the headlines in Big D, but Aubrey deserves some love, too.
