Steering the hype ship: Navy QB deserves his flowers

Should we be talking about Navy as a potential College Football Playoff contender? The 5-0 Midshipmen are certainly making a strong case early, but one player in particular isn't getting enough national attention.

Quarterback Blake Horvath has single-handedly dominated Navy's opponents this year (most of which haven't been total pushovers).

The junior passer has been the literal definition of a dual-threat player, with his rushing stats (565 yards, 10 TDs) nearly matching his passing tally (771 yards, seven TDs).

Saturday's 34-7 drubbing of Air Force was Horvath's fifth straight 100-plus-yard passing game this season, but the first in which he didn't throw a touchdown pass. (He still rushed for two scores.)

Navy has also scored a touchdown on all 18 of its red-zone trips with Horvath under center, the only FBS team to do that, per the CBS broadcast.

In Week 4, Horvath dropped a casual 403 total yards game (192 passing, 211 rushing) against a Memphis team that had just upset Florida State the week before. He logged six total touchdowns, including a 90-yard rush.
