After recording the first 50-home run, 50-stolen base season in MLB history, Shohei Ohtani began his postseason career with a bang on Saturday, smashing his first playoff home run in Game 1 of the National League Divisional Series.
With the Los Angeles Dodgers trailing the San Diego Padres 3-0 in the bottom of the second inning, the two-time MVP homered in his second plate appearance. Ohtani turned on a 2-1 fastball from starting pitcher Dylan Cease with two men on, tying the game at 3-3 in an instant.

Ohtani's deep ball answered a hot start from the Padres, who jumped on the Dodgers early, plating three first-inning runs, capped off by a two-run homer from Manny Machado. It was career postseason home run No. 11 for the San Diego third baseman, the sixth-most by a player through their first 44 postseason games, per Stathead.

Game 1 wouldn't stay knotted up for long as the Padres answered Ohtani's long ball. In the top half of the third inning, Xander Bogaerts doubled, scoring Jackson Merrill and Fernando Tatis Jr. to put San Diego back on top, 5-3.
The Padres' early offensive explosion chased Yoshinobu Yamamoto from the game after only three innings of work. The right-hander allowed five earned runs off five hits, walking two while giving up as many home runs (one) as strikeouts he recorded (1). He gave way to reliever Ryan Brasier.
Plenty of baseball remains and after all the early fireworks, the score isn't likely to stay the same between now and the ninth inning.
