NFL insider shares update on trade rumors involving Jets, Raiders' Davante Adams

New York Jets and NFL insider Connor Hughes of SNY reported ahead of the weekend that "most around the league SNY touched base with believe a deal sending" disgruntled Las Vegas Raiders star wide receiver Davante Adams to the Jets "will happen" before the Nov. 5 trade deadline because Adams "wants to" once again play alongside New York quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated touched upon Adams' future for a piece updated early Monday morning.

"Perception across the teams involved holds that Adams is trying to get to the Jets," Breer wrote.

Breer added that the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers "have called" the Raiders about Adams' availability. The story also mentioned that the New Orleans Saints are "one of the teams Adams would like to go to."

Adams previously played with New Orleans signal-caller Derek Carr at Fresno State and for a single season with the Raiders. However, the 31-year-old first became an All-Pro when he had Rodgers as his QB1 with the Green Bay Packers from 2014 through the 2021 campaign.

After the Jets fell to 2-3 on the ongoing season via Sunday's 23-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on Sunday, Conor Orr of Sports Illustrated and Dan Graziano of ESPN both said the Jets need to do whatever is necessary to trade for Adams as soon as possible. This past Saturday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that "trade talks involving Davante Adams are expected to intensify next week" as the veteran "continues to recover from a hamstring injury that could sideline him through" at least this coming weekend.

Schefter said that Raiders owner Mark Davis "will not accept anything less than a second-round draft pick" along with "additional compensation that could be in the form of a draft pick or a player" in return for Adams. On Sunday, Breer suggested that the Jets could possibly get Adams for "a third-round selection and maybe some sort of sweetener."

According to ESPN stats, Rodgers began Monday ranked 21st in the NFL among qualified players with a 49.1 adjusted QBR, 26th with an 81.6 passer rating and tied for ninth with seven passing touchdowns on the campaign. SNY's Connor Hughes noted that the 40-year-old was dealing with injuries to both of his knees before he suffered a low ankle sprain in the loss to the Vikings.

The Jets are undeniably a Super-Bowl-or-bust team as long as Rodgers is on the roster and healthy. Gang Green acquiring Adams before the "Monday Night Football" home game versus the 3-2 Buffalo Bills on Oct. 14 makes sense regardless of how that deal may impact New York's future beyond 2025.
