The Houston Texans have been without starting running back Joe Mixon since Week 3 due to an ankle injury. Backup running back Dameon Pierce hasn't suited up since Week 1.
Now, the team is placing star wide receiver Nico Collins on injured reserve with a hamstring ailment, forcing him to miss at least the next four games.
With wideouts Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell and tight end Dalton Schultz still in tow, Houston has offensive weapons to spare, but quarterback C.J. Stroud will certainly be tested for as long as Collins is out.
The fourth-year pass-catcher has become one of the best players at his position in the last year and has been Stroud's favorite target since his 2023 rookie campaign.

If there's any silver lining in Collins' situation, it's that the injury happened relatively early in the season.
The Texans (4-1) hold a comfortable two-game lead in their division and if their top receiver can return for the second half of the year, they should be in good shape.
Additionally, insider Ian Rapoport reported on Wednesday that "the belief" is that Collins "will be back sooner, rather than later."
Stroud is the reigning AP Offensive Rookie of the Year and is off to another hot start in 2024. Longtime sportswriter Peter King even said recently that he thinks the Ohio State product is a top five MVP candidate entering Week 6.
That may be the case, but Stroud's task just got a lot more difficult without Collins' services.
