Individuals throughout the NFL community continue to link disgruntled Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams with the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints, as Adams previously played with Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Derek Carr of the Saints.
ESPN's Dan Graziano noted in a piece published Wednesday that he is "still watching the" Pittsburgh Steelers as a possible landing spot for Adams for multiple reasons.
"They were very active in the Brandon Aiyuk sweepstakes when that was going on this summer, and my understanding is they plan to continue to be aggressive in pursuing wide receiver help," Graziano said about the Steelers. "Their top receiver is George Pickens, whose reduced snap count in [this past Sunday night's loss to the Dallas Cowboys] is an indication he doesn't have the full trust of the coaching staff, and they're ultra-thin behind him. Adams would immediately slot in as their No. 1 wide receiver, and they'll do what they can to find out if they can get him."
It appeared in August the Steelers were close to acquiring Aiyuk, but he ultimately decided he wanted to stay with the San Francisco 49ers and signed an extension with that club before the season. Meanwhile, concerns about Pickens' alleged lack of maturity arose long before Pittsburgh's Week 5 game against Dallas. Graziano revealed that "outside observers" have "suggested the idea of a Pickens-for-Adams trade."
Questions about how the 3-2 Steelers will handle their quarterback situation beyond this coming weekend hover over the organization, but it's worth noting that the Saints and Jets are dealing with issues of their own this fall.
Carr reportedly is expected to miss multiple games due to an oblique injury, while Rodgers has already been hobbled by injuries to both of his knees and a low ankle sprain this season. Additionally, Jets owner Woody Johnson shockingly fired head coach Robert Saleh on Tuesday.
Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported this past Saturday that Adams "has some concerns about Rodgers' plans to stay in New York past this season." Russini shared that update before an interview was released that featured Rodgers saying he and Father Time "are exchanging 'body blows'" and are "currently in a 'stalemate.'"
"The Steelers don't currently have the cap space to acquire Adams," Graziano pointed out, "though they would if this drags on a couple of more weeks or if they could get the Raiders to pay some of the salary."
The trade deadline doesn't arrive until Nov. 5, so Pittsburgh can wait to see if Adams grows fond of the idea of joining the AFC North side as he works to recover from a lingering hamstring problem.
