Watch: Longest-tenured Met has emotional reaction to NLCS berth

The longest-tenured player on the New York Mets was overcome with emotion at finally making an NLCS with the team.

The Mets won their NLDS series against the Philadelphia Phillies with a 4-1 victory in Game 4 on Wednesday. It was an electrifying scene at Citi Field as star shortstop Francisco Lindor hit a go-ahead grand slam in the sixth inning to send the crowd into a frenzy (video here).

After the Mets finished off the job and won the game, outfielder Brandon Nimmo was visibly emotional on the field. Nimmo was hugging teammates with tears in his eyes.

The 31-year-old Nimmo has been with the Mets longer than anyone on the current roster. He debuted in 2016, and this is now his ninth season with the team. The moment also had to have extra special meaning for Nimmo, who revealed after the Mets’ wild-card series clincher against the Milwaukee Brewers last week that his grandmother had died before the game.

The New York's last NLCS appearance came back in 2015, so this is the first time that Nimmo (or anybody else on the roster for that matter) has been to the NLCS as a member of the Mets. Nimmo has been through all kinds of ups and downs with the Mets (including just this year alone), so this moment was definitely a long time coming for him.
