Chargers bring back longtime star wide receiver

The Los Angeles Chargers are giving quarterback Justin Herbert and their offense another playmaker. It also happens to be a player they are all very familiar with.

The Chargers announced on Tuesday evening they are bringing back six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Keenan Allen after agreeing to terms with him, taking one of the top remaining free agents off the open market.

Allen spent the first 11 years of his career with the Chargers and was one of the top wide receivers in the league when healthy, topping the 1,000-yard mark six times and playing in six Pro Bowls.

The Chargers, however, traded him to the Chicago Bears prior to the 2024 season, and he caught 70 passes for 744 yards and seven touchdowns.

He became a free agent this spring and remained unsigned until now.

The Chargers have invested a lot of draft capital into their wide receiver room in recent years, selecting Quentin Johnston, Ladd McConkey and Tre Harris with premium picks going back to the 2023 season. They figure to be the main go-to players in the Chargers offense this season, but Allen definitely brings some solid depth and a significant veteran presence to a relatively young room.
