NFL Week 7 worst QB performances: Daniel Jones gives Giants buyer's remorse

Week 7 featured some of the usual suspects regarding dud quarterback performances.

But while we could have expected bad games from the likes of Daniel Jones and Andy Dalton, others were unexpected.

Here are the bottom-five quarterback outings from Sunday's NFL games.

Giants quarterback Daniel Jones

Sunday was Jones' moment to prove the Giants front office was right to pay him over running back Saquon Barkley.

During the 2023 offseason, New York signed Jones to a four-year, $160 million extension, which prevented the front office from extending Barkley this offseason.

Instead, the Giants' sixth-year quarterback showed why the front office committed malpractice with its catastrophic decision.

Jones finished the 28-3 loss to the Eagles 14-of-21 for 99 yards. When accounting for sacks and rush attempts, Jones' 33 plays netted the Giants 63 yards (1.9 yards per play).

To make matters worse, Barkley thrived in his return to New York. He was the best player on the field Sunday, finishing the game with 17 carries, 176 yards and a touchdown

As NFL insider Peter Schrager noted, after one game back, he already has more touchdowns in MetLife Stadium this season than Jones.

Per a social media post from the NFL on CBS, Jones has now gone six consecutive home games without a passing touchdown, the only quarterback to accomplish the embarrassing feat since 2000.

Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins

The Falcons signed Cousins thinking he'd be the missing key for their young core. But in Week 7, he only unlocked more misery for Atlanta.

In a 34-14 home loss to the Seahawks, Cousins was 24-of-35 for 232 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He was also sacked three times and lost a fumble, which was returned for a touchdown that gave Seattle a 17-point lead, 31-14, early in the fourth quarter.

Cousins' two interceptions following his crushing fumble came on overthrows, forcing head coach Raheem Morris to turn to rookie first-round pick Michael Penix Jr. to finish the game.

Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud

The 2023 Offensive Rookie of the Year's first career start at Lambeau Field went about as horribly as possible.

He ended the 24-22 loss to the Packers 10-of-21 for a career-low 86 yards. When adding his rushing yards and yards lost to sacks, the Texans gained a paltry 74 yards on Stroud's 30 dropbacks.

Green Bay had a lot to do with Stroud's rough performance. Per NFL Next Gen Stats, wide receivers Tank Dell and Stefon Diggs were blanketed in coverage, with Dell receiving an average of 1.71 yards of separation on targets and Diggs receiving an average of 1.9 yards of separation, well below league average (2.96 yards).

Stroud was pressured relentlessly. Per The 33rd Team's Tyler Brooke, the Packers pressured Stroud on 15 of his 29 dropbacks (51.7%)

Panthers quarterback Andy Dalton

Quarterback Bryce Young probably watched Dalton on Sunday and thought, "Gee, I could do that."

Dalton was 11-of-16 for 93 yards (5.8 yards per attempt) and two interceptions before being pulled midway through the fourth quarter for Young, who went 2-of-2 for -4 yards.

He tossed a pick-six on Carolina's first offensive possession, throwing the ball directly to Commanders outside linebacker Dante Fowler, who returned the ball 67 yards for the touchdown.

Carolina lost 40-7, its fourth loss this season by at least 20 points. After leading the Panthers to a win in his first start, Dalton is 0-4 in his last four games. If he continues playing as poorly as he did on Sunday, head coach Dave Canales might be forced to do the unthinkable and return Young to the starting lineup.

49ers quarterback Brock Purdy

Sunday's game of the week between the Chiefs and 49ers did not live up to the hype. Both quarterbacks were awful, but at least Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes left with a road win.

He was 16-of-27 for 154 yards and two interceptions in the 28-18 Kansas City win. That was actually the better of the two quarterback performances.

Purdy finished the loss 17-of-31 for 212 yards and three interceptions.

Chiefs safety Justin Reid read Purdy on his first interception, jumping tight end George Kittle's route to force the easy turnover.

Later, with the 49ers trailing nine in the fourth quarter, Purdy threw an interception in the end zone after he forced the ball between two defenders while being hit by Chiefs defensive end George Karlaftis.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan didn't mince words afterword.

"He's done some good things on offense this year, but today wasn't that day," Shanahan said. With Mahomes struggling, Sunday was the perfect time for Purdy to give San Francisco its signature win of the season.

Instead, he raised doubts over his ability to show up when the Niners need him most.
