Patrick Mahomes did an out-of-nowhere impression of Earl Campbell on Sunday.
The Kansas Chiefs star quarterback added to his greatest hits collection during the fourth quarter of his team’s Week 7 showdown against the San Francisco 49ers.
Facing 4th-and-goal from inside the half-yard line, Mahomes saw an opening in the defense and ran it in for the touchdown. Mahomes was met at the goal line by 49ers safety Malik Mustapha … and managed to win the battle emphatically.
Mahomes lowered his shoulder and somehow sent Mustapha sprawling to the turf. Here is the remarkable video.

Mahomes (6-foot-2 and 225 pounds) actually has a pretty big size advantage on Mustapha (5-foot-10 and 205 pounds). But for a quarterback to lay that kind of boom on a safety (someone who hits people for a living) was quite stunning to say the least.
“Mahomes Magic” has manifested itself in a whole lot of different ways over the years, including just this season alone. But that whammo by Mahomes certainly had many of us saying, “I owe you an apology. I wasn’t familiar with your game.”
