The 2024 World Series will feature two ball clubs that have met plenty of times before in the "Fall Classic." In fact, this will be the 12th time in MLB history the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees have vied for the title.
But with Los Angeles appearing in the World Series for the second time in the last four seasons, this year's contest seems to mean just a little bit more to New York. The franchise just won its first American League pennant since 2009.
For a couple of players on the squad now, the first time they step out onto the field in Game 1 will be a full-circle moment.
Gerrit Cole, slated to be the starting pitcher for Game 1, was present as an 11-year-old fan at the 2001 World Series when New York faced the Arizona Diamondbacks.

He brought the same sign he held in Yankee Stadium to his introductory news conference in 2019 when he signed with the club from the Houston Astros.
Similarly, shortstop Anthony Volpe was at the team's 2009 World Series victory parade, and on Friday, he'll be the first at his position to play in the "Fall Classic" for the Yankees since the legendary Derek Jeter.

This year's World Series is bound to contain some classic moments, especially with superstars Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge set to face off.
But it'll be equally worth watching Cole and Volpe's childhood dreams come true in an epic clash of baseball titans.
