LeBron James equates dream highlight with Bronny to iconic MLB father-son duo's legendary moment

LeBron James recently reacted to legendary MLB father-son duo Ken Griffey and Ken Griffey Jr.'s plans to attend the Los Angeles Lakers' season opener on Tuesday night against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Griffey Jr. revealed recently that he and his dad would be in attendance for the Lakers' first game of the 2024-25 campaign, as James and his eldest child, rookie guard Bronny James, get set to make history as the first father-son pairing in the NBA.

The Griffeys became the first father and son teammates in big-league history when the elder signed with the Seattle Mariners on Aug. 29, 1990. They played 51 games together with Seattle before the two-time World Series champion retired in June 1991.

Perhaps the most famous moment from their time on the field together came in September 1990 when the outfielders hit back-to-back home runs in a game against the then-California Angels.

"To be here today and to know that those guys will be in attendance tonight while me and Bronny (are) on the same team, it's a pretty cool moment in the history of sports," LeBron said.

LeBron was asked on Tuesday what the NBA equivalent of the Griffeys' signature moment would be with Bronny.

"(The Griffeys) played together two seasons, and the first season they played together, they hit back-to-back home runs. What would be the basketball equivalent of you and Bronny playing together in a basketball game, of accomplishing something like back-to-back home runs in a baseball game?" ESPN's Dave McMenamin asked.

LeBron didn't have to think long about his answer.

"Probably two lobs. If I catch a lob and then Bronny catches a lob, that'd probably be equivalent of that," the 39-year-old James said. "Obviously, the long ball is something that's big time in baseball, so probably two lobs."

That would certainly make for an entertaining, and memorable, moment for the NBA superstar and his son.
