The Bears' defense came one play shy of bailing out Chicago's struggling offense vs. Commanders in Week 8

What a first game that was between the top two rookie's in the league.

A game that from start to finish went no way anyone expected it to go.

When the clocks hit zero, the Washington Commanders came away with a 18-15 win on the final play against the Chicago Bears. A final play that covered up an otherwise incredible stand from the Bears' defense.

At the end of the day, the Commanders absolutely deserved to win this game. Washington out-played and out-smarted the Bears in Week 8 and a big reason why was because of the struggling offense from the Bears.

Chicago was out-gained by 174 yards, with 135 of the Bears' 307 yards coming in the final quarter of play. Yet, the Bears' defense managed to hold strong against the Commanders' top offense up until the final play of the game.

Prior to the last play walk-off hail mary, the Bears held the Commanders to just 12 points (all field goals) and was truly playing bend but don't break football.

It's tough to see the game end like that for Chicago's defense.

The biggest player of the night for the unit was defensive end Montez Sweat, who made a statement in his return to Washington, until being forced to leave the game with a shin injury. Prior to the injury, Sweat had a key sack, three QB hits, and two tackles for a loss against his former team.

Virtually the entire game, the Commanders had no answer for the Bears' defense, despite gaining a lot of yards. With the way the Bears' offense played, this should have been a blow out if not for the play of the team's defense.

But, that's been story for most of the Bears' season, especially at the beginning of the year. This defense is legit, and paired with a stud rookie punter, is giving the offense more than enough opportunities to get it together.

The offense had a chance to finally putting something together after having a real strong drive late in the fourth quarter, until the unit had this blunder of a play to give the ball back to Washington.

Luckily (and honestly miraculously), the defense forced a three-and-out on the following drive that included a huge tackle on a quarterback Jayden Daniels scramble short of the first down to give the offense another chance, in which they capitalized on it taking the lead with under a minute remaining.

Unfortunately, in this league, miracles happen. And that's exactly what happened on Sunday to ruin an otherwise great performance from the Bears' defense.
