Dak Prescott's turnovers remain an issue in Cowboys' loss to 49ers

The Dallas Cowboys fell to 3-4 on the season in a 30-24 loss to the San Francisco 49ers (4-4, highlighted by more turnover struggles from quarterback Dak Prescott.

While the Cowboys nearly came from behind to shock the 49ers in the fourth quarter on the back of two touchdown passes to wideout CeeDee Lamb, turnovers ultimately made the difference. Prescott threw two interceptions for the third game in a row, one of which led to a San Francisco touchdown in a game decided by six points.

Per Stathead, Prescott is only the 13th QB since 2016 to throw at least two picks in three consecutive games or more. Meanwhile, he's just the sixth Cowboy to accomplish the dubious feat and the first since Troy Aikman in 1992.

With 36 ticks left on the third quarter clock, 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy snuck across the goal line to give San Francisco what seemed to be a comfortable 27-10 lead. However, the Cowboys came alive in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to only six with 3:32 remaining.

Following a clutch three-and-out forced by the Dallas defense, the Cowboys had the ball with a chance to go ahead with 3:05 left. However, even after receiving a reprieve when three 49ers failed to come up with an easy interception on first down, Prescott could not connect with a receiver on the four straight pass attempts, giving the ball back to San Francisco and, thus, sealing the game.

It's a hard loss for the Cowboys and Prescott to swallow, but they don't have much time to sulk. Over the next four weeks, Dallas will match up against four tough opponents, including the NFC South-leading Atlanta Falcons (5-3), Philadelphia Eagles (5-2), the AFC South-leading Houston Texans (6-2) and the NFC East-leading Washington Commanders (6-2).
