Rachel Nichols reveals more surprising details regarding Dwyane Wade statue

Rachel Nichols revealed on Sunday evening that Basketball Hall of Famer and Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade was "very involved with" what the new statue of him in South Beach would look like and "visited the sculptor several times."

In the wake of Sunday's unveiling and the ensuing criticism and mockery in how the piece looks nothing like "Flash," Nichols appeared on the "Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz" on Monday to give further details on the situation.

"I think it looks clearly how Dwyane Wade sees himself. That's what I can say about him. That's not a dig. It's because he had the most input on this and in the end, it's for him," Nichols said. "He said he visited the statue-maker four different times. He said that one of the visits, he told me, he said, 'Oh yeah, they didn't get the distance between the bottom of my nose and my lip correctly. The ratio was off. So I had them measure in between the bottom of my nose and the lips so they could get that exactly right.' So if he's doing that level of detail, it tells me that the rest of it, he was like 'Oh yeah, this is it!' So if this is what he wants and how he sees himself, I'm going to have to go with him."

The 13-time All-Star is the first player in Heat franchise history to have a statue erected in his honor.

The piece of art depicts Wade when he made a game-winning three-pointer in double-overtime against the Chicago Bulls on March 9, 2009, and yelled "this is my house." Wade finished the contest with 48 points.
