After not getting an extra-base hit through the first two rounds of the playoffs this year, the Dodgers' Freddie Freeman has turned into a likely World Series MVP candidate after hitting his third home run of the series.

Freeman hit a two-run home run in the top of the first inning off Yankees starter Clarke Schmidt. The Dodgers would go on to win the game 4-2 and take a commanding 3-0 lead in the series.
Freeman now has a homer in five straight World Series games, dating back to Game 5 of the 2021 World Series when he was with the Atlanta Braves. That ties an MLB record set by George Springer.
He also became the third player ever and first since Barry Bonds to homer in the first three games of a World Series.
Freeman didn't learn he had tied the record until after the game, and when he did, he responded, "Oh! Dang."

"When it's all said and done [tying the record] is something I could look at," Freeman said. "One more win, that's all I care about right now. I don't care how it happens, I just want to get one more win."
Coming into the series, there were questions about Freeman's ankle, which bothered him throughout the playoffs and forced him to miss two games.
"My ankle is that much better," Freeman said. "During the days off, I was able to calm it down, get some treatment and then I was able to work on my swing. That's the key."
Freeman, with his Kirk Gibson-esque walk-off grand slam, seven RBI and 15 total bases in the series, is the World Series MVP favorite.
His performance has the Dodgers one win away from winning the championship.
