Lonzo Ball has played in three games for the Chicago Bulls since returning from a two-and-a-half-year injury absence. The elite playmaker has been dealing with knee issues but appears to have put them behind him and is now working on rebuilding his value around the NBA ahead of impending free agency next summer.
However, Ball's injury nightmare looks set to continue, at least in the short term. According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Ball will miss "at least 10 days" due to a wrist sprain.

In his first three games back in Chicago's rotation, Ball is averaging 4.7 points, 3.7 assists and 2.7 rebounds. Those numbers will undoubtedly improve as he returns to NBA-level conditioning and begins regaining his feel for the game. For now, though, he will be consigned to a bench role.
Ball's latest setback is another boost for Josh Giddey. The versatile 22-year-old ball-handler has made a strong start to life in the Windy City. As such, he will likely ensure Ball stays glued to a bench role throughout the season, especially if concerns surrounding his ability to remain healthy persist. Giddey didn't agree to a rookie-scale contract extension ahead of the Oct. 21 deadline, so he joins Ball in playing for his next contract.
Fortunately for Ball and the Bulls, his latest stint on the sidelines isn't expected to be long-lived. The injury has nothing to do with his knee, so a speedy return to the rotation is the most likely scenario. Nevertheless, such a quick injury after returning to the court will likely raise some red flags within the front office. Ball simply can't stay healthy, so he can't be viewed as a cornerstone building block moving forward.
Ball needs a strong season. Otherwise, he may find himself scratching around for another opportunity in the NBA next season.
