After an embarrassing 34-3 loss to Georgia in Week 1, not many teams are playing better football right now than the Clemson Tigers.
Since that Week 1 loss, the Tigers have won six straight and are ranked No. 11 in the country. Quarterback Cade Klubnik has been a huge part of that success.
Klubnik, a five-star recruit out of high school, is in his second season as the starter for Clemson. As a freshman in 2022, Klubnik was DJ Uiagalelei's backup and became the starter after Uiagalelei entered the transfer portal.
Klubnik did see limited action in 2022, including replacing Uiagalelei in the ACC Championship game and leading Clemson to victory against North Carolina. Klubnik then started the Orange Bowl against Tennessee and suffered a 31-14 loss to the Vols.
In his first full season as the starter in 2023, Klubnik led Clemson to a 9-4 record, but it was not exactly a great year for the quarterback. He threw for less than 3,000 yards, including several games where he was not able to eclipse 200 passing yards, and there were just two games where he went over 300 yards.
Klubnik also struggled with turnovers as he threw nine interceptions and lost five fumbles.

Fast forward to 2024, and Klubnik is having an outstanding season. Through seven games, he has thrown 20 touchdown passes and just three interceptions. Klubnik has also rushed for four more touchdowns and is fifth in the country in QBR (87.4)

Klubnik's development from last season to this season has certainly caught the attention of Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney.
"He's just been a much better decision maker, and he's cut down on all the avoidable negative plays and he's taking care of the ball so much better. The game has just slowed down for him," Swinney said, per Gavin Oliver of The Clemson Insider
The college football world has also noticed the outstanding year for the Clemson quarterback. According to FanDuel, Klubnik has the fifth-best odds (+1500) to win the Heisman Trophy. He trails Travis Hunter, Dillion Gabriel, Cam Ward and Ashton Jeanty.
Klubnik has Clemson in the driver's seat to reach the College Football Playoff for the first time since 2020. The Tigers are not slated to face a ranked team for the remainder of the season, and barring any unexpected loss, the Tigers will be back in the CFP.
