In the NBA, a dunk can be a relatively common occurrence. Especially given the fact that highly-paid, highly-talented professionals rarely miss them.
However, Wednesday was one of those rare times where a pro actually missed a dunk — or did they?
The Memphis Grizzlies' Ja Morant had a clear opportunity to stuff the ball on a breakaway but oddly, as he attempted a reverse dunk the ball went through the hoop but appeared to bounce off the top of his head and back out. The basket ended up not counting.
Weird missed dunk from Ja

Should this count? pic.twitter.com/h7rPulrEPF
While according to the letter of the law, the basket rightly should not have counted but it did prompt some interesting online debate about what constitutes a made bucket in those situations.
Upon slow motion replay, it appears as if the ball fully clears the rim before bouncing off Morant's head and exiting back the way it came.
Either way, Morant potentially could've been called for offensive basket interference for hanging on the rim as the ball was passing through the hoop. It's rarely called in a dunk situation but this was weird enough to potentially qualify. Ultimately it did not.
The play was not reviewed, nor is it clear if it was even reviewable, but the unfortunate bounce made for a wild moment in an already close game.
