Shohei Ohtani took some time to address the fans directly at the Los Angeles Dodgers’ World Series parade.

During the festivities at Dodger Stadium on Friday, the Dodgers superstar Ohtani took the microphone and surprised many by delivering a message to the fans in English.

“This is so special [of a] moment for me,” said Ohtani, eliciting very loud cheers from the Dodgers faithful. “I’m so honored to be here and to be part of this team.

“Congratulations, Los Angeles,” Ohtani concluded. “Thank you guys!”

The soon-to-be three-time MVP Ohtani was having the time of his life at the parade and even brought his famous dog Decoy along for the fun.

Ever since making the leap to MLB in 2018, the 30-year-old Ohtani has used a translator for nearly all his official interviews and press conferences. That remained the case even after he had to switch to interpreter Will Ireton after his previous one, Ippei Mizuhara, was fired in the wake of a huge scandal.

But Ohtani can speak at least some English and has busted it out before on certain special occasions. Friday’s World Series parade qualified as another one of those occasions for him.
