Carson Hocevar takes out two drivers in separate incidents at Martinsville

Carson Hocevar added two incidents to a long list of run-ins on Sunday at the Martinsville Speedway.

On lap 158 of the Xfinity 500, Hocevar carried far too much speed into turn three, turning the No. 21 of Harrison Burton.

The incident is the second time this season that Hocevar and Burton have come together in controversial fashion, as Hocevar spun Burton under caution at the Nashville Superspeedway on June 30. Hocevar was fined $50,000 and docked 25 points for the spin.

Since his time in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, Hocevar has built a reputation as a driver who is frequently in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. He intentionally spun himself twice to bring out a caution flag, and intentionally wrecked the likes of Colby Howard (IRP 2022) and Taylor Gray (Martinsville 2023) in Truck Series races, the latter of which earned him a two-lap penalty.

Hocevar hadn't been at the center of controversy since the aforementioned incident at Martinsville, but this spin — which looked to be easily avoidable had Hocevar chosen to brake harder — is another black eye on the talented young driver.

Hocevar decided he wasn't done yet, however.

On lap 196, Hocevar drove too deep into turn one, hitting the No. 31 of Daniel Hemric and sending him into the No. 38 of Todd Gilliland.

The incident marked the second time in 40 laps Hocevar was the instigator of a spin.

Hocevar has all but locked up the Cup Series Rookie of the Year Award and is clearly a very talented young driver. However, he must clean up his on-track behavior, or some of the veterans in the garage will return the favor.
