Ohio State drains 14 threes in upset win over No. 19 Texas

If fans didn't stay up to watch the 10 p.m. ET tip, the Buckeyes pulled off the incredible opening win in front of a mostly empty T-Mobile Arena.

Junior Bruce Thornton led the team in scoring, dropping 20 points on what looked at most times like a rattled Texas defensive set up.

The Longhorns had won 15 of their previous 16 matchups in November but that trend was interrupted on Monday night. They were a 1.5 point favorite entering the contest.

Ohio State, led by first-year head coach Jake Diebler, gained four major transfer portal additions in the offseason after losing five players from last year's team.

The revamped roster appears to be working as the team shot 50% from beyond the arc and held Texas to just 36.8% from the field.

After missing the NCAA tournament for the second consecutive season in 2023, the Buckeyes are off to the right start if they want to turn things around in Columbus.
