In the NASCAR playoffs, performing in the races that matter most is of the utmost importance.
ThorSport Racing has perfected that strategy over the past several seasons, and it led driver Ben Rhodes to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship in both 2021 and 2023.
Rhodes wasn't the best driver in either of those seasons, but his No. 99 team came alive in the late stages of the playoffs.
Rhodes was eliminated from the Truck Series playoffs in the Round of 10, but it was his teammate in Ty Majeski that carried the ThorSport banner into the Championship Four with finishes of 12th, second and 11th in the Round of 8.
Majeski has made the Truck Series Championship Four for the second time in three seasons.
One big topic on the mind of fans as the Truck Series prepares for its finale is the chaotic nature of the 2023 Truck Series championship race, which devolved into a wreckfest late.
"You never know, I hope not," Majeski told Fox Sports' Bob Pockrass when asked if Friday's finale could replicate last year's. "I feel like a lot of the races have been clean. I feel like the (Truck) series has been a lot better than last year. I really don't foresee it turning out like last year, but you just never know."
The 30-year-old from Seymour Falls, Wisconsin, has made three Truck Series starts at Phoenix. While he's never finished better than 11th, he was a contender to win the aforementioned 2023 championship race until he was spun by Jesse Love and relegated to a 14th-place finish on a night where he led 48 laps.
Majeski hasn't had the strongest 2024 campaign, but he has an opportunity to steal the spotlight from his competitors and take the glory for his own.
