How Man United could line up under new coach Ruben Amorim

After a rocky tenure in charge, Manchester United made the decision to part ways with manager Erik ten Hag.

United currently sits 13th in the Premier League, winning only three of their first 10 games, and are 26th in the Europa League, having drawn all three of their games.

In the wake of firing ten Hag, United has agreed on a deal to bring in Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim. The 39-year-old is a highly touted coach in today's game, but exactly what kind of coach is United getting?

Amorim is a tactically astute coach, who stays loyal to his possession-based 3-4-2-1 formation that shifts into more of a 3-4-3 when in possession, which is drastically different than the 4-2-3-1 formation former manager ten Hag would use. While the formation may be a bit different than what many of the top coaches in the world use, the tactical concepts are well-drilled from hours of work on the training ground.

The most important part of Amorim's style is the tactical discipline of his players. Every player he fields has a specific role and he expects his players to know their roles at all times and stay loyal to them. While there is room for moments of individual brilliance, the most important aspect is sticking to playing together as a team.

Amorim prefers to have a goalkeeper and center-backs who are comfortable playing on the ball, which plays into his favor at United with players like goalkeeper Andre Onana and center-backs Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez.

One of the biggest criticisms of Amorim's style is the over-reliance on goals from one player. Striker Viktor Gyokeres has scored 41 goals in 42 games at Sporting CP under Amorim, leading many to believe he relies too much on one player. However, Amorim has been able to get double-digit goals out of other attackers like Francisco Trincao and Pablo Sarabia, which shows his teams can produce goals elsewhere on the field.

United have a plethora of attacking depth at their disposal for Amorim to find the goals that former manager ten Hag struggled to find.

Under ideal circumstances, a United lineup under Amorim would look like the following...

Andre Onana

Leny Yoro - Matthijs de Ligt- Lisandro Martinez

Noussair Mazraoui- Manuel Ugarte - Kobbie Mainoo- Diogo Dalot

Bruno Fernandes - Alejandro Garnacho

Joshua Zirkzee
