The No. 16 Mississippi Rebels were hoping to get back into the tight SEC title race on Saturday by beating the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs.
Those hopes seemingly took a severe hit in the first quarter when starting quarterback Jaxson Dart went down with a left ankle injury in the first quarter.
Dart left the game and went to the locker room, noticeably limping and distraught, slamming his helmet according to the ABC broadcast.

Dart returned to the Mississippi sideline shortly after but did not immediately re-enter the game as his limp was still present as he walked. However, he was seen wearing his helmet near the bench area.
Backup passer Austin Simmons seemed to have no problem taking over for Dart, leading the team on a 10-play, 75-yard touchdown drive on its next possession.
Dart's injury resulted from a low tackle on a throw that ended up being intercepted. It appeared the defensive player may have twisted his left ankle on the sack attempt.

Dart eventually re-entered the game on Mississippi's following possession, still limping and appearing to fight through any lingering pain he may have been experiencing in his taped up ankle.
