Texas' Quinn Ewers sets career-high in dominating win vs. Florida

Thanks to a masterful performance by junior quarterback Quinn Ewers, No. 5 Texas was able to cruise to a 49-17 victory over Florida on Saturday.

During the win, Ewers completed 70.4 percent of his passes for 333 yards, and he set a new single-game career-high in the contest with five touchdown passes.

After a rough last few games, Saturday's performance is one that the Longhorns quarterback badly needed.

Heading into the 2024 campaign, Ewers was among the handful of players that many believed could win this season's Heisman Trophy. That's still a possibility (seventh-best odds to win the award according to ESPN BET on Saturday), but his chances had certainly been dwindling before this weekend's victory over the Gators.

In the three games before Saturday's contest, Ewers threw a total of six touchdowns and four interceptions and averaged fewer than 235 passing yards per matchup. He even got benched for a bit during Texas's loss to Georgia back on Oct. 19.

To be fair, Ewers had to miss two of the Longhorns' games earlier this season due to an abdominal injury, and he might've returned to the field a little sooner than he should have.

But after tossing a total of eight touchdown passes in his last two games, it seems like Ewers is back to looking like one of the nation's top quarterbacks once again.

If this is truly the case, it's great news for Texas, which is right in the middle of the hunt for this season's National Championship.

Following this weekend's pummeling of Florida, the Longhorns improved their record to 8-1 this year, and the chances are very high that they will move up in the next College Football Playoff Rankings with No. 3 Georgia and No. 4 Miami both losing on Saturday.

Next up for Ewers and Texas is a road matchup on Nov. 16 against a 5-4 Arkansas team that allowed 63 points in their last game. So, don't be surprised if the Longhorns quarterback ends up having another record-setting performance next week as well.
