Former MVP breaks down continued struggles of Giants' Daniel Jones

Quarterback Daniel Jones may have taken the final in-game snaps of his New York Giants career during New York's 20-17 overtime loss to the woeful Carolina Panthers (3-7) in Germany on Sunday.

During Monday's edition of the WFAN morning show, one-time MVP and current NFL analyst Boomer Esiason suggested Jones is a broken signal-caller at least as it pertains to his Giants tenure.

"They have a quarterback who is completely hamstrung mentally," Esiason said, as shared by Ryan Chichester of Audacy. "It’s paralysis by analysis by Daniel Jones. They left probably nine to 20 points on the field by colossal, boneheaded mistakes and missed opportunities."

Esiason was referencing how replays showed Jones missed open wide receivers on multiple plays against Carolina. Jones did rush for a touchdown Sunday, and he completed 22-of-37 passes for 190 yards with zero scores and two interceptions. After the loss, head coach Brian Daboll hinted that he could turn to either primary backup Drew Lock or QB3 Tommy DeVito during the club's Week 11 bye.

New York next hosts the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-6) on Nov. 24.

The Giants signed Jones to a four-year contract in March 2023 after he guided the club to a road playoff win, but he's since gone 3-13 as a starter. Even if Daboll still thinks Jones gives the Giants the best chance to win games, most expect the coach will sit the 27-year-old so the injury guarantee for 2025 attached to his contract won't get triggered.

Such a decision would signal the Giants plan to move on from Jones during the upcoming offseason. According to ESPN stats, he began Monday ranked 26th in the league with a 46.4 adjusted QBR and 31st with a 79.4 passer rating on the campaign.

"You can only draw up so many plays," Esiason added about Jones. "The plays are gonna be there, and the quarterback either pulls the trigger…or he doesn’t see it and he’s basically afraid to get himself involved and takes a sack. It’s frustrating to watch."

Neither Esiason nor anybody else should have to watch Jones play for the Giants again unless the 2019 first-round pick has to take emergency in-game snaps at some point before the season concludes.
