World No. 1 Jannik Sinner improved his nearly spotless 2024 record to 68-6 on Thursday with a straight-sets win over world No. 4 Daniil Medvedev in the final group stage match of the ATP Finals. The Italian achieved the rare feat of winning all three round-robin matches in straight sets to punch his ticket to Saturday's semifinal.
The run in Turin perfectly encapsulates a dominant year that has seen him register a whopping 15 victories over top-10 players and at least 10 wins over top-5 ranked stars. While he didn't win majors in 2023, Sinner's ascension truly began last season when he finished with a 64-15 record and reached the finals at Indian Wells and ATP Finals and the semifinals at Wimbledon, besides winning two ATP 500 and one ATP 1000 titles.
Sinner's consistent 24-month run has helped him join an exclusive club of tennis greats.

It's easy to forget that Sinner has been dominating the tennis circuit while a grey cloud hangs over him due to the Court of Arbitration for Sport's ongoing proceedings over his doping case.
Speaking on the Tennis Channel, American great Andy Roddick suspected that Sinner's dominance on the court was the perfect way for him to mentally escape all the off-court drama.
"A part of me thinks that being between those familiar lines, where it never changes, the dimensions, has to be some sort of therapy for him, right? That's my escape, that's where I can go and not even think about [the doping case] for a couple of hours," Roddick said of Sinner.
A perfect record going into the semifinals

Thus far, only Sinner and American world No. 5 Taylor Fritz have punched their tickets to the semifinals of Saturday's final four. They await the results of the other group which concludes on Friday.
In a perfect world, tennis fans will be treated to a Sinner versus Alcaraz final this weekend. Of Sinner's six losses in 2024, three were courtesy of Alcaraz, who won all three of their matchups earlier this year. In many ways, Sinner must beat Alcaraz at least once in 2024 to truly establish himself as the best in the world.
