Watch: Anthony Richardson showing why Colts gave him another chance vs. Jets

Indianapolis Colts second-year quarterback Anthony Richardson is taking advantage of his second chance in Sunday's road game against the New York Jets.

With the Colts leading 3-0 late in the first quarter, Richardson tossed a short pass to rookie wide receiver Adonai Mitchell, who turned it into a 33-yard gain. Two plays later, Richardson stiff-armed Jets defensive end Micheal Clemons and plowed in for a two-yard TD at the start of the second quarter.

Earlier this week, Colts head coach Shane Steichen turned back to Richardson after benching him for two straight games. Joe Flacco lost both starts in relief of Richardson, throwing two touchdowns and four interceptions.

Richardson struggled in his first six starts, completing 44.4 percent of his passes, well below the league average. Additionally, he subbed himself out in a Week 8 loss to the Texans because he was "tired."

Instead of letting the benching shatter his confidence, the 22-year-old used it as a learning experience.

"I think these two weeks have definitely opened my eyes and allowed me to take a deeper dive and look into myself and see what I'm made of," Richardson recently told the media. "So I'm thankful for these past two weeks and low-key thankful that it happened."

If Richardson keeps showing more maturity, he could improve quickly. More importantly, he should stay off the bench.
