Watch: Alex Ovechkin scores on 177th different goalie, tied for second-most all-time

Alexander Ovechkin just continues to climb his way up the NHL record books.

On Sunday, he scored a first-period goal against Vegas Golden Knights netminder Ilya Samsonov to put the Washington Capitals up 1-0 early.

Samsonov, formerly a teammate of Ovechkin's in Washington, became the 177th different goaltender the 39-year-old has scored on in his career.

Ovechkin is now second on the NHL all-time list with the retired Patrick Marleau, leaving only the great Jaromir Jagr (178) left to pass.

The tally was Ovechkin's 864th career goal and his 11th of the 2024-25 season.

He now inches ever closer to Hockey Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky for most goals all time (894).

Ovechkin has scored nine goals in his last ten games, trailing only Connor McMichael (12) for the team lead.

It was also Ovechkin's 315th career power-play goal, extending his record by 41 over the next closest player (Dave Andreychuk - 274). The next closest active player is Steven Stamkos with 217.
