One stat proves Broncos' Bo Nix should win Offensive Rookie of the Year

The Denver Broncos (7-5) are red-hot with rookie quarterback Bo Nix under center this season.

Currently sitting as the seven-seed in the AFC playoff picture, Nix has led the team to four victories in its last six games.

In doing so, he's attracted significant attention to his campaign for Offensive Rookie of the Year, a race led most of this season by Washington Commanders passer Jayden Daniels.

Despite Daniels' obvious talents, Washington is in a tailspin, losing three straight and ceding critical ground to the division-rival Philadelphia Eagles.

One critical stat (h/t CBS Sports) shines a new light on the OROY race and gives Nix his well-deserved flowers.

Among rookie quarterbacks, Nix has five games in which he's thrown for more than 200 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. That leads all rookie passers.

The next closest competitor is Daniels with three such performances and then Chicago Bears passer Caleb Williams, selected No. 1 overall in April, with two.

Nix has a 4-1 record when achieving that feat, the only loss coming against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. Daniels is 2-1 with his loss coming against the Baltimore Ravens.

The OROY race does sometimes boil down to a style and hype contest, in which Daniels has a slight edge with Washington competing in a still very winnable division. Nix is written off as a wild card, given Kansas City's well-known dominance.

That should endear him to voters as the most valuable new addition to the league. He may not topple the mighty Mahomes right away, but he's certainly shaping up to be his foil in future years.

As the final five weeks of the season play out, Nix will be worth watching and paying attention to as he attempts to chase down Daniels for the prestigious first-year honor.
