At 6-5 the Arkansas Razorbacks have had some bright spots this season.
They beat No. 4 Tennessee earlier in the season at home and also went on the road to Mississippi State and put a hurting on the Bulldogs in a 58-25 win. They're also coming off a 35-14 win over Louisiana Tech.
There have also been downs, though. Arkansas lost in back-to-back weeks to No. 19 Ole Miss and No. 3 Texas, which showed that head coach Sam Pittman's squad isn't yet ready to take on the big dogs of college football.
Pittman has been at Arkansas since 2020 and he has a 29-30 overall record. Aransas was 4-8 last season and didn't make a bowl game and though the Razorbacks are bowl eligible this season, it's not like 2024 has been anything to write home about outside of the Tennessee win.
Pittman came into this season with a bit of fire under his seat and had he lost to Louisiana Tech he very well could have seen himself fired, but even so, he revealed after the win that he feels very comfortable in Fayetteville.
“I’m not going to do the message to fans, but y’all have been making a lot of money off of, you know, ‘Is a guy doing this, is a guy doing that,’ or whatever. It’s your opinion, whatever. I’ve never, one time, worried about my job. I promise you, not one time,” Pittman said (h/t On3).
He did reveal that he's happy that Arkansas is bowl eligible, but with a game against No. 23 Missouri to end the season, Pittman is focused on doing what he can for the Razorbacks. Whether or not he's the head coach in 2025 is irrelevant to him.
"I’m going to be fine one way or the other, but I’m going to fight like hell for the University of Arkansas the entire time that I’m the head coach," Pittman said.
