Real Madrid is hunting for a replacement for freshly retired Toni Kroos and has reportedly identified three Premier League midfielders that fit the bill.
As noted by the Daily Mail, citing Madrid newspaper Diario AS, Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has added Liverpool's Curtis Jones, Manchester City's Rodri and Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez to his wishlist of future midfield signings.
Having established himself as one of the Premier League's best midfielders, Jones played a key role in Liverpool's 2-0 dispatching of Real Madrid in their recent Champions League game. The Englishman has completed an impressive 94.8% of his passes this season, which is the kind of accuracy the midfield has been lacking this season.
Rodri is a player who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid in the past and is the most similar profile to Kroos. Rodri is arguably the best tempo-controlling midfielder in the world, which is what Los Blancos are desperately missing this season. Rodri also has a career passing accuracy of 92.84% which is almost identical to Kroos' passing accuracy during his time at Real Madrid.
Fernandez is an interesting player for Real Madrid to consider signing. He had a tough first two seasons at Chelsea after his $135M signing from Benfica but has finally found his footing at the London club. The midfielder has two goals and two assists in the Premier League this season to go along with his 82.6% passing accuracy.
While any of the three signings would be great for Real Madrid, the biggest issue would be the transfer fees. Each player would no doubt come with a fee of over $100M, and it is unknown if Real Madrid has that kind of money to spend on a single player when other positions in the team still need reinforcing.
The team is also looking at two potential additions outside of the Premier League in Bayern Munich's Joshua Kimmich and Paris Saint-German's Vitinha, the Daily Mail noted.
