Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni reportedly entered this season on the hot seat after his team collapsed during the second half of the 2023 campaign. However, such talk has vanished with the 10-2 Eagles riding an eight-game winning streak.
Following Philadelphia's 24-19 victory at the Baltimore Ravens (8-5) this past Sunday, Sirianni spoke with NFL insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated about doing whatever possible to ignore outside noise that could serve as a distraction for any locker room.
"You obviously hear it," Sirianni explained. "You gotta prepare for media, and I gotta do questions. But I also gotta practice what I preach. And if I’m gonna tell these guys not to listen when the word is out that we’re not any good or the word’s out that we’re really good, then I need to do the same thing. That’s all I’ve tried to do. … My job is to lead this football team, along with the captains and the leaders we have, and put my head down and go to work."
Sirianni's relationship with quarterback Jalen Hurts allegedly became "fractured and unhealthy" last season as the Eagles went from 10-1 to 11-6 before they lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild-card round of the playoffs. Whatever did and/or didn't happen between Sirianni and Hurts roughly one year ago, the two seem to be on the same page heading into Christmas.
As of Tuesday afternoon, DraftKings Sportsbook listed the Eagles second among the betting favorites behind only the 11-1 Detroit Lions (+290) at +475 odds to win Super Bowl LIX. As much as Sirianni tried to block out talk regarding his uncertain future earlier this year, he's now working to keep his players focused on the long-term goal that involves competing through February.
"We don’t have time to feel good about anything, because we have a lot of the season to go. Again, I know that’s not the answer you want. It’s boring," Sirianni told Breer. "But it’s the boring, it’s the monotonous grind, it’s our habits that are paying off right now. And we’ll continue down that road."
The Eagles next host the 3-9 Carolina Panthers this Sunday. On Tuesday, DraftKings Sportsbook had Philadelphia as a 12-point favorite for that matchup.
