New York Rangers star reportedly declined trade to Vancouver Canucks

The 33-year-old has two season left on his contract that pays him a manageable $6.5M annually. In 21 games this season, he's scored 10 goals and 0 assists.

The Rangers immediate willingness to trade some of their veteran players in response to the loss the Oilers was a bit of a shock.

According to Elliotte Friedman on the most recent edition of "32 Thoughts," it may have even been Darnell Nurse's short-handed goal that set off Rangers management to make a major change.

"That goal was everything that was/is wrong with the Rangers. The team completely bailed on defense while on a power play. Quick had been standing on his head up to that point, keeping the Rangers in the game, but Nurse's goal opened the floodgates."

Kreider has played his entire NHL career with the New York Rangers, and Trouba was the captain of the team. Trouba was traded across the country on Friday. His trade could send a harsh message to the team that their game hasn't been good enough.

While Kreider may have blocked a trade to Vancouver, it's possible he wouldn't to the Edmonton Oilers. Recently, Stan Bowman said that multiple players are reaching out to say a trade to Edmonton would be amenable.
