Watch: Stephen Curry's 38-footer beats the third-quarter buzzer

When the clock is winding down, Stephen Curry is at his best. No matter how far out he has to shoot from.

Curry hit his fifth three-pointer of the game to beat the third-quarter buzzer and give Golden State a lead against the Minnesota Timberwolves. After Nickeil Alexander-Walker tied the game with six seconds left, Curry weaved his way up the floor and, despite two defenders checking him, pulled up and sank a shot from just across half-court, capping a 44-point quarter for his team.

Golden State stuck with the bigger and faster Minnesota Timberwolves Sunday night in a game where the Wolves shot a scorching 19-for-42 from behind the arc, getting threes from nine different players. But the Warriors outrebounded the Wolves 45-39 and added eight steals, getting just enough offense to eke out a 114-106 win.

Most of the Warriors' three-point production came from Curry and Buddy Hield, who was inserted into the starting lineup due to an injury to Andrew Wiggins and broke out of a shooting slump with a 7-for-13 night. Hield's last three was a dagger, giving Golden State a six-point lead with just under a minute to play.

Curry finished with 30 points and five three-pointers in the win. The biggest surprise was that he got to the foul line for a season-high 11 free throws, though Curry uncharacteristically missed two of them. His combination of driving and outside shooting confounded the Wolves and center Rudy Gobert, who had only four points and nine rebounds, getting outplayed by Warriors backup center Kevon Looney, who had 12 points and nine boards in his 21 minutes.

The other key to the Warriors' win was a strong fourth quarter from Draymond Green, who picked up his fifth foul with 8:56 to go but stayed in the game. He blocked a Jalen McDaniels layup seconds later and anchored a Warriors defense that held Minnesota to just 16 points in the final quarter.

Green also iced the game late on a pick-and-roll with Curry, where the 6-foot-3 guard screened Gobert and got Green a wide-open dunk. Green was so elated that he did Curry's patented "Night Night" celebration on his way back down the court.

But that's what the threat of Curry's long bombs can do. Not only did his outside shooting hurt the Wolves, but having to send two defenders out to chase him 30 feet from the basket left the middle of the court open. When he's making 38-footers, there's no good option on defense, and the Wolves had none Sunday night.
