Some much-needed WR help could be on the way for Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs may have some help coming for QB Patrick Mahomes.

Marquise "Hollywood" Brown, who signed a one-year deal with the Chiefs prior to the 2024 season, returned to practice on Friday for the first time since dislocating the sternoclavicular joint in his shoulder during the team's preseason opener, per ESPN's Adam Teicher, who covers the Chiefs.

At first glance, you would think the Chiefs have handled each of their opponents considering the team's 12-1 record.

While that has not been the case, with 15 consecutive one-score wins and 10 of the 13 games this season decided by one possession, Kansas City is still tied with the Detroit Lions for the best record in the NFL.

Something the Chiefs have struggled with is consistent play at the wide receiver position. The team's leading receiver, aside from TE Travis Kelce (682 yards), is rookie Xavier Worthy, who only has 448 yards all season. Kansas City's No. 1 receiver, Rashee Rice, suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 4.

Brown could provide a huge boost to an inconsistent receiving core for Kansas City. In his five seasons in the NFL, Brown has put up 3,644 receiving yards and 28 TDs. More importantly, Brown has averaged 11.6 yards per catch. That type of play-making ability is what the Chiefs have lacked throughout the 2024 season.

With Brown returning to the practice field, the Chiefs have three weeks to activate him to the active roster. While he may not return for Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns, the fact that he is practicing makes it seem likely that he will return to in-game action in the coming weeks.

After Kansas City travels to Cleveland, the Chiefs return home to face the Houston Texans (8-5) before back-to-back road games to end the season at the Pittsburgh Steelers (10-3) and Denver Broncos (8-5).

Having already clinched a ninth consecutive AFC West title, the Chiefs will look to get Brown back on the field in hopes of giving Mahomes and the Kansas City offense some much-needed firepower as the postseason approaches.
