Not much, if any, has gone the Las Vegas Raiders way this season.
Who is to blame for the Raiders' misfortunes?
Head coach Antonio Pierce?
Former offensive coordinator Luke Getsy?
Defensive coordinator Patrick Graham?
Former wide receiver Davante Adams?
So much has gone on for the Raiders that has led to a dismal 2-11 record heading into Monday night's game against the Atlanta Falcons at Allegiant Stadium.
Raider Nation had seen enough of Getsy, who came over from the Chicago Bears, where he didn't excel at much to begin with. He was fired on Nov. 3 and replaced by Scott and Norv Turner.
Adams had enough and was tired of wearing the Silver and Black uniform. He wanted out.
Raiders general manager Tom Telesco granted his wish, and Adams was traded to the New York Jets to reunite with quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Nothing has gone the Raiders way at all despite starting the season at 1-1 after a surprising win at the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 15.
Since then, the Raiders have lost nine straight.
Did Pierce lose the locker room after a bunch of celebratory cigars after wins last season?
Pierce took over as the interim coach after Josh McDaniels was fired last season. He led the Raiders' charge en route to a 5-4 record after taking over in October.
Raiders players put their stamp of approval for Pierce to become the permanent head coach.
Raiders owner Mark Davis listened, removed the interim tag label and made Pierce the head coach in January.
Raider Nation was happy with the decision that Davis made Pierce his head coach after a somewhat of a resurgence that included a surprising Christmas Day win over the rival and eventual Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs.
The Raiders did finish the season 8-9 and in second place in the AFC West.
Did that mean a lot of promise for the 2024 Raiders? Absolutely.
Heading into the season, the defense was talked about potentially being one of the top-rated NFL defenses after playing strong last season.
Over on the offense side, the Raiders were led by Adams. The question remained, however, is who will be the Raiders starting quarterback?
Telesco went out and signed journeyman Gardner Minshew, but that didn't work out. Aidan O'Connell had started 10 games last season but didn't win the job before the season opener.
He did see some starts this season and had to leave the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Dec. 8.
His status for Monday's game against the Atlanta Falcons is unclear because of a knee injury.
So much has been lost this season. Sure, Pierce should be blamed for some of the failures, but at the same time, he should be given another chance.
Look at Lions coach Dan Campbell in his first year as the coach. The Lions went 3-13 and followed that up with a 9-8 record.
Not saying that is what is going to happen with Pierce if he's back next season, but he should be given a fair shot given that the Raiders will have plenty of draft picks, including a high pick and a lot of cap room to sign free agents.
Everyone deserves a second chance, and to give up on Pierce so fast would be a terrible idea.
