Caitlin Clark makes strong guarantee for future of WNBA

After an historic year for the WNBA that the saw women's basketball league set records for viewership just about everywhere, Caitlin Clark has a message for fans on the future of the league.

During her recent interview with Time, which voted her as the Athlete of the Year for 2024, Clark declared that the time to invest in the league is now and that the WNBA is on the rise.

"We're just scratching the surface... The smartest thing would be to get in now because the price is only going up," Clark said, via Yahoo Sports.

The league is certainly doing its best to capitalize on the viewership that Caitlin Clark has brought to the league. The WNBA has already added the Golden State Valkyries as their new team and will be adding more teams in Toronto and Portland within the next year. 

Some of the games during the past WNBA season even surpassed their NBA counterparts.

While she may not be the best player in the WNBA just yet, she's certainly among its most popular and the numbers from her games with the Indiana Fever this past year bear that out. The Los Angeles Times released a report estimating that she was responsible for over 25-percent of the WNBA's economic activity this year and upwards of $200 million in revenue.

Clark certainly gave the fans their money's worth to boot.

As a rookie in 2024, Clark won the Rookie of the Year award and was named to the WNBA All-Star team plus the First-Team All-WNBA team. She led the league in assists and helped lead the Fever to their first playoff appearance since 2016.

2025 will indicate whether this past year was just a flash in the pan sort of year for the WNBA, or a sign of real growth. But if it really is a sign of things to come, then Clark may be right about the timing being right to invest.
