South Carolina escapes with upset win over No. 25 Clemson in OT thriller

The South Carolina Gamecocks picked up their first signature win of the season by taking down in-state rival and 25th-ranked Clemson, 91-88 in overtime, on Tuesday night.

While South Carolina did not trail until a Chauncey Wiggins jumper gave Clemson a 54-53 lead with 10:56 to play in the game, the Gamecocks led by as many as 14.

South Carolina was in position to win the game in regulation until Clemson senior Chase Hunter banked in this incredible three-point shot to force the extra frame.

Despite the heroics, the Gamecocks were able to avenge last season's 72-67 loss to the Tigers and score their first win over an AP Top 25 opponent this season.

South Carolina shot an impressive 30-for-58 (51.7 percent) from the floor and outrebounded the Tigers, 35-28.

Four South Carolina players scored in double figures. Sophomore Collin Murray-Boyles, who leads the team with 15.9 points per game, had a team-high 22 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Myles Stute contributed 19 points, while Nick Pringle put up 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting. Jamarii Thomas had 11 points and seven rebounds.

Clemson was solid from the floor, going 30-for-64 (46.9 percent) and 9-of-21 (42.9 percent) from behind the arc.

In addition to his game-tying three to force overtime, Hunter led the Tigers with 27 points, while Ian Schieffelin (23 points, 12 rebounds) had his sixth double-double of the season.

South Carolina (8-3) returns to action on Sunday against Radford. After dropping each of its last two games, Clemson (9-3, 1-0 ACC) plays its second conference game of the season when it hosts Wake Forest on Saturday.
