Stock-car racing has always been a sport encapsulated by grassroots racers taking advantage of opportunities.
Some of the greatest NASCAR drivers of all time started as little more than track champions at their local dirt tracks, and today, thousands of short-track racers aim to become the next local legend to come out of their local track.
One such local legend is Tim Brown, who holds a record of 101 wins at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Brown has also won 12 track championships at "The Madhouse."
His success at the quarter-mile bullring will culminate in a NASCAR Cup Series opportunity with Rick Ware Racing. On Tuesday, the organization announced that Brown will be behind the wheel of the team's No. 15 car when the NASCAR Cup Series returns to Bowman Gray for the first time since 1971 for the season-opening exhibition race known as the Clash.
Bowman Gray star Tim Brown, who has his 101 modified wins and 12 track championships, will get to race a Cup car at the track as he will be entered in the Rick Ware Racing No. 15 car for the Clash. The 53-year-old Brown works in RWR shop as a suspension/drivetrain specialist.
