Injury-plagued Hornets should enter rebuild after Wizards loss

The 2024-25 NBA season has been filled with injuries for the Charlotte Hornets. With stars LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller each sidelined at some point this year, it has gotten off to a poor start.

Charlotte must enter complete rebuilding mode after an embarrassing 123-114 loss to the Washington Wizards on Thursday.

Losing to a Wizards team that has only won once since Halloween should indicate to the Hornets' front office that it's time to tear it down.

Charlotte shot an abysmal 18.6% from three (8-of-41 3PT), including Ball's 3-of-18 3PT performance. The absence of Miller was noticeable, but the Hornets still should have been able to handle a Washington team that was without its best player in Kyle Kuzma.

While unpopular, no player on Charlotte's roster should be considered "untouchable." Sure, trades for Ball and Miller would seem like an overreaction and upset the fan base, but the return for those two would be significant and give the Hornets what they need to start over.

Along with Ball and Miller, Charlotte has young players like Mark Williams and Josh Green, who would bring back solid pieces.

The Hornets also have veteran players such as Seth Curry and Vasilije Micic, who would return draft picks. Charlotte has implied it is willing to trade Micic, which may be the first step in the Hornets' eventual rebuilding.

With losses to teams like Washington and injuries piling up, Charlotte may have to make a tough decision: trade everyone.
