New Orleans Saints rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler followed an unorthodox plan to prepare for frigid conditions at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
On "Monday Night Football," the Green Bay Packers (10-4) host the Saints (5-9) at 8:15 p.m. ET. According to The Weather Channel's forecast, the temperature on Monday could dip to 25 degrees, and there could be snow.
Saints QBs coach Andrew Janocko recently took Rattler and the other QBs into the team's freezer in its cafeteria to help them acclimate to the subfreezing temperatures.
"This morning, Janocko took us in the cafeteria freezer, where it was like 10 degrees, and we're just going through the whole script in there, and so just doing that, that helped a lot," Rattler told ESPN's Katherine Terrell. "So, hopefully, it's not 10 degrees, but we'll be ready."
Janocko told Terrell the 1993 Disney movie, "Cool Runnings," loosely based on the first Olympic Jamaican bobsleigh team, inspired his idea. In the film, a character sits in an ice cream truck to prepare for the cold.
Janocko also has plenty of experience preparing for chilly weather after coaching with the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears from 2015-23.
"I think there's something we said about just preparing for [the cold], so you're not shocked, and it's not something surprising," the QB coach said. "It's something that you deal with as far as you prepare for the opponent and prepare for the venue. So, I just thought it was good to do something a little different. At this time of year, it's fun to do different stuff. It's a long season and sometimes other than just sitting in a meeting day after day, just doing something different, changing up the scene. Guys thought it was hilarious. The cafeteria workers think I'm out of my mind."
Rattler is replacing injured starting QB Derek Carr (hand) for a second time this season. The Oklahoma/South Carolina product is 0-3 in three starts and has the same number of TD passes and interceptions (two) in four games.
To upset the Packers, the Saints need Rattler to heat up. As of Sunday, ESPN Bet lists New Orleans as a 14-point underdog.
