Texans add much-needed WR depth with addition of Diontae Johnson

After losing Tank Dell for the season due to a dislocated knee, torn ACL and more, the Houston Texans added a receiver on Tuesday through the waiver wire.

Houston claimed Diontae Johnson, who was just released by the Ravens. Johnson was traded from the Panthers to the Ravens before the trade deadline, but collected just one catch for six yards in four games with Baltimore.

Johnson was suspended for one game by the Ravens for refusing to go into the teams Week 13 matchup against the Eagles. Johnson served his suspension in Baltimore's Week 15 game against the Giants and was then released by Baltimore on Friday.

Before his rocky stint with Baltimore, Johnson was having a good season for the Panthers.

He was the Panthers' leader in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns in his limited time with the team this season.

The addition of Johnson to the Houston receiver room is much needed. A fresh start and new team will be much needed and beneficial for Johnson and the Texans were in the market for another proven and veteran receiver.

Before the addition of Johnson, the Houston receiving core was Nico Collins, Robert Woods, John Metchie, Xavier Hutchinson and Jared Wayne.

Outside of Collins, the other four have a combined 38 catches this season.

Johnson should be able to step in and make an impact for Houston right away. His first chance to do so will be on Christmas Day against his former team, the Ravens.
