Aaron Rodgers again addresses Jets leaks after Woody Johnson story

During a Monday appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers seemed to joke about last week's report from The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt, Dianna Russini and Michael Silver that claimed, among other things, that the teenage sons of team owner Woody Johnson allegedly have some influence regarding personnel decisions.

Rodgers also ripped people associated with the Jets for being a little too chatty with media members.

"There’s definitely some leaks," Rodgers explained, as shared by RJ Kraft of The Athletic. "There’s people that have relationships with people in the media. There’s motivations for writing stories it seems like and nothing is surprising at this point. There’s some interesting things that go on in every organization — some that would like to be left uncovered but it seems like here those don’t always get left uncovered. They get covered."

Back in December 2023, Rodgers directly said that the Jets needed "to get to the bottom of wherever this is coming from and put a stop to it privately" after a story detailed how then-New York quarterback Zach Wilson was "reluctant to step back into the starting role" as Rodgers continued his recovery from the torn Achilles he suffered in September of last year. This past spring, Rodgers campaigned for people within the organization to "handle things in-house."

Fans have long blamed Johnson for the fact that the Jets were already responsible for the longest active playoff drought in the four major North American sports leagues before that streak extended to 14 consecutive campaigns. He fired head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas earlier this fall, but those moves didn't prevent the Jets from falling to 4-11.

It's believed Johnson and a new Jets regime will move on from Rodgers this coming offseason.

"Obviously, what’s best for the Jets is not having these types of leaks all the time," Rodgers continued on Monday. "When that gets figured out, it will be a little easier to win. That doesn’t have a direct impact on the players on the field but it does have an impact on the culture and the chemistry and the overall energy of the building. That’s what needs to get better."

It remains to be seen if Rodgers will have any part in the Jets' latest attempts to improve their culture during the offseason. For now, he'll focus on helping his teammates be as ready as possible for this Sunday's matchup at the 12-3 Buffalo Bills.

As of Tuesday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook listed the Jets as 9.5-point underdogs for that contest.
