No. 8 Maryland women remain undefeated with win over No. 19 Michigan State

The Maryland Lady Terrapins improved to 12-0 (2-0) on the season with a 72-66 victory over No. 19 Michigan State on Sunday.

The loss for Michigan State was its second in a row after starting the season 11-0.

Kaylene Smikle led the charge for the Lady Terps with 19 points, three rebounds and two assists. Saylor Poffenbarger collected her fourth double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds) in the win.

Bri McDaniel contributed 12 points off the bench and Shyanne Sellers had a strong all-around game with 11 points, six rebounds and seven assists.

Theryn Hallock was Michigan State's leading scorer with 20 points. Julia Ayrault finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds, good for her fourth double-double of the season.

Jocelyn Tate did a lot for Michigan State, finishing with seven points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Maryland will return to action on Jan. 2 against Rutgers before a two-game stretch against No. 24 Iowa and No. 4 USC.

Michigan State gets an easier stretch of games as it will not face a ranked opponent until Jan. 25 against arch-rival Michigan.
